The event is of such an unprecedented magnitude that the computer, which is an Artificial Brain for Breeding Intelligence, experiences a major malfunction. The holographic image of a female it creates on occasion to walk the corridors of the massive ship becomes human, and refers to herself as ABBI. Afterwards, the faltering computer feels threatened and divides its secret destination into two scout ships and sends them to opposite ends of the galaxy.1,000 years ago, the surviving race of Kymions from a world-wide plague packed into thirty two ships discovers the two scout ships. The second ship containing the final information is on the planet Arret, which has two suns that are lethal to the Kymions. They discover that the humans from Planet Earth can survive on the surface—abductions begin.Present day, and Chip Rose is the latest earthling taken by the Kymions. When Chip awakens on the planet Arret he discovers he has the spirit of an eighteen year old Arret girl residing in his mind. While Chip struggles to acclimate with being taken, he bonds with the female spirit of Arret named Tarella, who slowly learns how to manipulate certain tendrils in his mind that enhances his strength, speed, eyesight, and hearing. Chip, dubbed Stargazer by his mind-meld, Terella, due to a case of amnesia he experiences when first arriving, hopes Tarella’s ability to enhance will increase his survivability rate to more than twenty four hours. The present day Kymion watcher, Darok, assigned to abduct humans with the Earth/Arret wormhole transporter, is the one that inserts a small device into their brain that sends a subliminal message to search for the scout ship. Darok’s hatred for the humans escalates as they have yet to discover the scout ship, and he inserts another device into Stargazer’s brain, which his mind-meld, Tarella discovers and shorts out, causing Stargazer to temporarily return to Darok’s ship and a struggle ensues, one in which Stargazer is the victor.Meanwhile, on the hidden star ship, the holographic image ABBI who is now human, struggles with all the sentient emotions the computer collected through the millennia that she now possesses. The pragmatic side of the computer that survives the major melt down deems ABBI as a nuisance and locks her inside the Arboretum on the star ship.Back on Arret, Stargazer encounters a few indigenous life forms, and with Tarella’s knack to enhance his strength and speed he is victorious. Soon afterwards he is approached by four Tree Wardens of the Tarook forest that witness the battle with Arret targogs and ask him to help rid the forest of the beast called a Scog. After watching Stargazer dispatch the targogs with such impressive strength and speed they think he is a warrior sent to them to aid with killing the Scog.As this story concludes, Stargazer decides that with Tarella’s knack to enhance, he now has the ability to help the not only the indigenous creatures known as the Tree Wardens, he also has the desire to do so. And he has the desire, really… almost the need to help others who may need his new gifts. It is something of a revelation for Chip rose, now that he is no longer Chip Rose and is now Stargazer, for as Chip Rose back on his home planet, Earth- he had always been apathetic to the needs of others, particularity when bravery was needed. He feels he is now two forever in one, Stargazer and Terella, a combination that is all but unbeatable. And finally, by not turning his back he can walk away with a clear conscious and search for a way off Arret, knowing that he did all he could with the aid of his mind-meld that he believes is a gift for a higher purpose.
